4-H report
Last Updated: October 01, 2015

Valley Victors

The meeting was called to order by Alyssa Zimmerman at West Elementary on Sept. 14. The flag salute was lead by Ellie Jacobs. The 4-H Pledge was lead by Audrey Crist. The thought of the day was presented by Joey Spratt. Roll call was "Your favorite animal and its sound."

Matthew Peters introduced the theme of the float to the club. He had two helpers — Maggie Clark and Tommy Spratt. The float work hours were Tuesday and Thursday 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

It is a new 4-H year, and we are off to a fantastic start with two project talks. Joey Spratt and Abby Anderson gave a project talk about "Saving the Monarchs." They said that we could contact Nancy Anderson if we wanted to plant milkweed in our yards so we can observe these unique creatures. Tommy Spratt, Katie Anderson, and Kaden Zimmerman gave a project talk about "Tagging Monarchs." They also tagged one in front of the club. They used a toothpick to put a sticker on the wing. Anyone who finds one in Mexico will get paid $5!

Our club has installed some new officers. They are president Cassie Zimmerman; vice presidents MacKenzie Moldenhauer and Casey Shinkle; secretary Joey Spratt; treasurer Sophia Jacobs; reporter Matthew Peters; parliamentarians Ellie Jacobs and Audrey Crist; photographers Sophia Jacobs and Abby Anderson; scrapbook Tommy Spratt and Rhett Sanford; recreation leaders Anna Jacobs, Brandi Martin, Dawson and Jillian Davis, Maise and Maggie Clark; song leaders Katie Anderson, Lindsey Reynolds, Justis Davis and Kaden Zimmerman; communications (Facebook) Madalynn Davis and Emma Anderson; citizenship coordinators Alyssa Zimmerman and Abigail Weldon; greeters  Gracie Nelsen, Kassi and Andrew Peters, Cody, Zane, and Waddie Sanford, and Charlie Anderson.

We had seven visitors: Cael, Kryon, Jackson, Cassidy, Jenna, Knox and Calvin.

Our club did a couple of service projects. We helped at the Lord's Diner by packaging donated Girl Scout cookies and drying trays. We also finished our bags with school supplies and sent them overseas. It was fun to make the bags.

Nancy said we needed to decide what to do for 48 Hours of 4-H. The club agreed on doing the O.W.L.S. at West Elementary, we would make blankets for kids in need, and we would help clean the Great Plains Nature Center.

Our club goals are to have fun, get 75 percent of record books completed, all members do a project talk, to do a club art project and have a water party. We set some fun goals this year. Last year we almost made our goals, and this year we are hoping to complete our goals.

Refreshments were provided by the Harden, Reynolds and Clark families — a fall trail mix.
