Deer runs into police car
By Chris Strunk
Last Updated: July 24, 2014

A Valley Center police cruiser was damaged and an officer had a close call when a deer jumped into the road late July 15.

Officer Shannon Meyer was driving south in the 1100 block of South Meridian when the deer struck the vehicle near the open window on the driver's side, nearly hitting Meyer.

Meyer stopped the vehicle and found the deer near the road. It was severely injured, and Meyer put the animal down.

The vehicle was taken out of service for several hours to replace a turn signal lens.
