Cletis Stewart Last Updated: July 24, 2014 Cletis E. Stewart, 90, died July 18, 2014. He was born in Salina on Aug. 5, 1923. He was a World War II veteran of three years, spending 19 months in the European theater. He spent 195 consecutive days on front line duty. On Aug. 31, 1947, in Hutchinson, he married Vesta Lee Carter. He was employed by Beatrice Foods for 22 years and Steffens Dairy for 12 and 1⁄2 years. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Weir (Richard) of Valley Center; son Richard Stewart (Claire Jepson) of Lee Summit, Mo.; sister LaVeda Thorton (Gene) of Texas; grandchildren Richard Weir, Jr. (Tanja), Catherine Vasquez (Frank), Sara Graves (David), Matthew Weir, Jennifer Wright (John), Dena Steward (Jared) and Jamie Stevens (Jon); and great grandchildren Courtney and Victoria Weir, Isaac and Gabbi Graves, Sara Vasquez, Ethan Weir and Bethan Wright. He is preceded in death by his wife, Vesta; parents George W. Stewart and Leah Rose Stewart; brother Willard Stewart and sister Vietta Ediger. Memorials may be designated to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 5500 E. Kellogg, Wichita, Ks 67218 and Central Community Church, 6100 W. Maple, Wichita, Ks 67209. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., July 24, at Central Community Church, 6100 W. Maple, Wichita. Graveside will be following the service at Lakeview Cemetery, Wichita, Kansas. Baker Funeral Home, Valley Center, has charge. |
