The average price for a gallon of gas in the Wichita area rose 16.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.81 on May 19. Kirk stopped a suspicious vehicle that was seen in the parking lot of the Valley Center Christian Church. The girls in the vehicle told Kirk they were trying to get to Theorosa's Bridge near 109th North and North Meridian but were lost because of construction at the Fifth Street bridge. Kirk said the girls were advised that it would be safer to go home since it was nearly 2 a.m. ... Smith-Phipps American Legion Post 73 will hold two Memorial Day Services May 27. The first is at 11 a.m. in Park Cemetery in Sunnydale. The Valley Center City Council on May 21 agreed to pay Sedgwick County about $50,000 to mill and overlay South Meridian between 69th North and the southern edge of the city.
