Local students complete Awana

On May 5, three local students received the Citation Award from the Northside Bible Chapel Awana program in Kechi. The Citation Award is given to students who have completed all of the materials that are required in the Awana program, which is based in Streamwood, Ill.

Those who completed the program are Josiah Schurter of Valley Center, Rebekah McAdam of Valley Center, and Josiah Atherton of Kechi.

To achieve this award, each student had to complete over 10 years' worth of lessons and activities in the Awana program. In those 10 years they learned more than 700 Bible verses, read through the entire Bible, completed several Bible studies and fulfilled four dedicated years of Christian ministry service projects in their church and community. The Citation Award is the highest recognition that any participant can receive, enabling them to earn scholarships from select colleges and universities.

Awana, which stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed (taken from a Bible verse in 2 Timothy 2:15), is an international weekly Bible-based ministry for youth ages 3 to 18 to help them build Biblical foundations for their faith in Christ. Meetings include practical Bible messages, memorization and games. Each week, more than 1 million children and youth and 250,000 volunteers take part in Awana in over 17,000 churches worldwide.

The Awana program that meets at Northside Bible Chapel in Kechi starts in September each year and runs through April. For more information about the program, contact Sid Johnson at 744-1128.
