The View from Sunflower Gardens By Marilyn Bentley Last Updated: May 23, 2013 We honor the mothers of veterans in May This is a fun song by Mack David called "Sunflower." "I was born in Kansas, I was bred in Kansas and when I get married, I'll be wed in Kansas. There's a true blue gal who promised she would wait. She's a sunflower from the Sunflower State. She's a sunflower, she's my sunflower and I know we will never part. She's my one flower, she's the flower of my heart. Skies are fair in Kansas, clouds are rare in Kansas. Never saw a place that could compare with Kansas. So I'm going home to keep a wedding date with a sunflower from the Sunflower State. Troubles end in Kansas, folks unbend in Kansas. Everyone you meet will be your friend in Kansas and they will all be there to help me celebrate with my sunflower from the Sunflower State. Oh! The moon is brighter and the skies are bluer and the gals are sweeter. Their hearts are truer and I'm here to state there's one who's really great! She's a sunflower from the Sunflower State" — Mack David We celebrated Mother's Day, school is out and we will celebrate Memorial Day! We honor the mothers of veterans. Now is a good time to pray for all our troops and their families. Remember, life is like a ten-speed bicycle, we have gears we never use! We still enjoy our coffee chat times, game nights, jigsaw puzzles, potluck dinners, music & piano, van trips, and walks through our halls as well as around our north building. Fun time: "How did Bo-Peep lose her sheep? She had a crook with her!" "What does a musician need in a supermarket? A Chopin list!" "What is a musical insect? A humbug." "What do fathers sing in the shower? Pop music." "A country man between two lawyers is like a fish between two cats." — Ben Franklin Verse of the week: "All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose." — Romans 8:28 In 1774, Abigail Adams wrote long letters to her husband, John Adams in Philadelphia. "If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies we are determined to foment a rebellion and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no vote." Women acquired the right to vote in 1920! We honor all First Ladies: Eleanor Roosevelt was the "travel-the-world-representative" of FDR in the war years of World War II. Dolly Madison and Mary Lincoln helped put new furniture and style in the White House. Jackie Kennedy helped restore White House furniture and antiques. Michelle Obama stresses good diet for school lunches. Laura Bush brought good children's literature to public attention. Remember: "Be kind, anyway" — Mother Teresa |
