Man sentenced in motorcycle death By Matt Heilman Last Updated: May 23, 2013 A former Valley Center High School student charged with murder has been sentenced to serve more than 10 years behind bars. Last April, 23-year-old Joshua L. Wynn of Park City was arrested on a warrant for first-degree murder in the Sept. 1, 2011, wreck that resulted in the death of 19-year-old Mallory Scofield of Wichita. Court records show Wynn pled guilty to face the alternative lesser charge of second-degree murder. He was also charged on two misdemeanor counts of driving with a suspended license and operating a motorcycle without a Class M license. In a judgment from Sedgwick County District Court filed April 24, Wynn was sentenced to spend 123 months in prison. He'll receive credit for time already served. On Sept. 1, 2011, Wynn eluded officers after a sheriff's deputy tried to stop his Yamaha motorcycle in south Wichita. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Wynn was driving north on 135th Street West at a high rate of speed when his motorcycle struck a curb on the west side of the road. Wynn and Scofield were ejected from the motorcycle. Scofield died at the scene and Wynn was transported to a Wichita hospital with serious injuries. Neither Wynn nor Scofield were wearing helmets, the highway patrol said. |
