HELEN BACHELDER

Helen Louise Bachelder, 93, of Yates Center, died Feb. 13, 2013 at the Deseret Nursing Home in Yates Center.

She was born Feb. 27, 1919, in Yates Center to Walter and Olive (Bauersfeld) Otto.  

She attended Belmont Grade School. Her family later moved to Yates Center, where she attended Yates Center High School. Upon graduation in 1937, she attended American Business College in Wichita.

On June 7, 1942, she was united in marriage to Henry Hugh Klick at the Batesville EUB church. They established their home on the Weide farm in the Batesville area. They had two children, Dennis and Linda. Following Henry's death from a tractor accident in 1952, she married Verle Bachelder in 1958. They continued to farm for another 29 years. Upon Helen and Verle's retirement, they relocated to Yates Center. They were fortunate to take numerous trips and visit out-of-state relatives prior to Verle's death in 2008.  

She was a member of the Batesville EUB church and later transferred her membership to the Yates Center United Methodist Church. She held many offices and worked on numerous committees for the church and UMW. She was currently an active member of the Star Valley Unit and the Yates Center Senior Center. She was a member of the Belles and Beaus singing group. She assisted in the grade school lunch room for a number of years. Of the many volunteer activities that she was involved with, one of the most important was being coordinator of the local Red Cross Blood Drive for 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Henry and Verle; son Dennis; father and mother Walter and Olive Otto; brother Russell Otto; and son-in-law Arthur (Bud) Edwards, Jr.  

She is survived by daughter Linda Edwards Patrick (Paul) of Valley Center; grandsons Jason (Lisa) and Darren (Amy) Edwards of Valley Center; granddaughters Cindy Baker (Brandon) of Yates Center, Latrisha Larner (Daniel) of Bentonville, Ark. and Jeania Embry (Tom) of Fort Scott; sister, Elizabeth Reid (David) of Janesville, Wis.; sisters-in-law Marguerite Otto and Edwina Trichler of Yates Center; great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Addison and DJ Edwards,  and Krais and Tayla Baker and Everett Embry; step-sons, Jerry Bachelder (Joyce) of New Albany, Ind., and Don Bachelder of Mesa, Ariz.; step-daughter, Janice Riley (Don) of Chickasha, Okla.; eight step-grandchildren, 16 step-great-grandchildren and six step-great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Feb. 17 at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center. Funeral services were Feb. 18 at the Yates Center United Methodist Church with burial following in the Yates Center Cemetery.
