    Gayle Lynn McCandless, 60, died May 23, 2019. She was a certified nurse assistant for 40 years.
JUNE REYNOLDS
    June Ann (Wilson) Reynolds, 69, of Park City, died May 22, 2019. She worked sales for Hobby Lobby and JoAnn Fabrics until retirement.
VIRGINIA BOYD
    Virginia Boyd, 70,  formerly of Valley Center, died May 22, 2019.

Weather hurts city’s streets
    Earlier this month, local firefighters were kept busy when several vehicles got stuck in high water northwest of Valley Center. Though there were signs warning motorists that the roads were closed, some drivers ignored the signs and paid the price.

Kechi approves development in Rock Pointe Taylor Messick
    The Kechi City Council on May 23 unanimously approved the cost schedule for improvements in the Rock Pointe and Young Industrial developments. The city also accepted its share of at-large costs for a portion of the project.

    Park City officers were sent to a reported submersion in Hap McLean Park about 3 p.m. May 26.
Man arrested after chase The News staff
    An El Dorado man was arrested in Park City May 21 after a car chase and a short foot pursuit.
Park City approves project bidding policy Taylor Messick
    Last month, the city had a bid opening for an infrastructure project in one of its subdivisions. All of the bids for the project came back slightly above the engineer's estimate. The city then learned about a Kansas Department of Transportation policy for such situations. As long as the bid is not in excess of the engineer's estimate by more than 3 percent of the total amount, the low bid can be accepted by the city.

Alum to coach Hornet baseball Randy Fisher
    Barnes was 43-82 at Valley Center. His best year was 2018 when the Hornets were 12-10, their first winning season since 2008.

    Payton Graham and Aaron Diehl were named to the first team, with Gavin Adams and Jesse Johnson picked for the second team.

    Eliza Grady was the only Hornet to repeat. The junior second baseman received second-team honors last year as a utility player.

Students achieve highest level in Awana program The News staff
    On May 5, four area students received the Citation Award from the Northside Bible Chapel Awana program. Those who completed the program requirements were Derek Barton of Valley Center, Alexander DeWerff of Bel Aire, Joshua Schlittenhardt of Maize and Elizabeth Yeremin of Wichita.

    On May 24, police responded to a burglary in the 900 block of Pheasant Run, which is in the Valley Meadows neighborhood. The homeowner reported seeing a white female in his garage taking various items.
