Kechi grapples with new cell tower access Taylor Messick
    The FCC has lifted some of the restrictions and ordinances that cities use to control placement of utility equipment in rights-of-way. This action specifically references the new 5G cellular equipment that is installed on the top of light poles. The FCC decided that wide-spread availability of cellular access was more important than cities' ability to regulate where that equipment goes. Cities can no longer impede cell phone companies from hanging their equipment where they want.

    There are 21 girls on the team and many have previous club experience, which couldn't be said about the Hornets' first boys' team.

    This year, the question is how to keep the momentum going. For Barnes, it's about communicating expectations.

    In the second half, Valley Center got on the scoreboard on a goal by Vanessa Aguilar with the assist to Ruby Aguilar. The Hornets scored their second goal on a free kick outside the 18 by Vanessa Aguilar. Soon after that, Haley Sparks ripped one in, also from outside the 18, to account for the final score.

    Those seniors were Sydney Martens, Emma Girtz and Lexi Wolff. Luckily, Danielsen knows he already has a proven leader in the midfield in Emily Breault. He is also excited about her chemistry with his other midfielders.

    In October, Schul was recognized as a semifinalist. She was in the top 1 percent of 1.6 million students who entered the scholarship competition. Now, she joins an even more elite group of students.

    A Valley Center man was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation after police were called to a home for an assault March 13.
Fire dept. receives Firehouse grant The News staff
    The equipment will improve the department's rescue capabilities for victims in vehicle accidents by allowing firefighters to cut through materials used in modern manufacturing and quickly reach victims in need of medical attention.

    A Valley Center resident was sought by police over the weekend for an armed robbery in Wichita.

    Vogt was promoted from sergeant to captain March 19, giving the department another level of supervision under Chief Lloyd Newman, who is also the director of public safety and oversees the fire department.
