    The Kechi City Council unanimously voted Feb. 14 to accept the lowest bid for street surfacing improvements in the Prairie Creek subdivision. All streets within the subdivision will be resurfaced.

Farmers struggle with health care
    The Sedgwick County Farm Bureau Agricultural Association board of directors strongly endorses Kansas Farm Bureau's efforts to offer farmers and ranchers more options for accessing affordable health care. We urge Kansas legislators to vote yes on Senate Bill 32. The legislation would allow KFB to offer members a health coverage plan that would be 30 percent less expensive than current market options.
Leadership required
    Economic development is the lifeblood of any community that hopes to grow, sustain quality services for residents, attract new families and keep property taxes competitive with neighboring communities.

    The varsity boys' team entered the meet as the top seed and all six bowlers placed in the Top 20. Unfortunately, none of the Hornets was able to crack the Top 10, which would've given them all-league status.

    Although the official seeding and pairings weren't announced by the Kansas State High School Activities Association in time to make this week's issue of The Ark Valley News, it appears both the boys and girls basketball teams at Valley Center High School will be seeded 16th. If that is the case, each team would host a play-in game against the 17-seed.

    With just one more opponent on their schedule, the Valley Center Middle School girls basketball teams played Maize on Feb. 18 and Eisenhower on Feb. 14, splitting eight games. Both seventh-grade teams won each night, while their eighth-grade counterparts lost their four games.
