Battling injuries, Hornets 24th at Rocky Welton Jeremiah Strunk The Valley Center High School wrestling team competed in Garden City's 61st annual Rocky Welton invitational Jan. 11 and 12. Consisting of 46 teams from five states, the Rocky Welton Invitational is the toughest tournament in Kansas, Hornet coach Tate Lowe said.

Bowlers win duals against Andover, Goddard Taylor Messick The varsity boys won 2,333 to 2,254. They were down by 28 points going into the last game and pulled off the comeback. Coach Phillip VanHorn said Quintin Talbot, Cooper Watkins and Wyatt Jones played “lights out" for the team. Jones was the top bowler in the boys' match with 637 points. Talbot was second with 598.

Hornets stumble at Eisenhower Randy Fisher With 10 days off after their third-place finish in the January Jam, the Valley Center High School boys basketball team returned to the hardwoods Jan. 29 at Eisenhower. The Tigers took control of the game at the start of the third quarter and went on for a 65-56 victory. The loss leaves the Hornets at 6-7 overall and 2-4 in Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League II.

Swimmers 16th at Northwest Invite Taylor Messick The best individual finishes of the day came from Cameron Morand and Tristan Mollelo. Morand was 15th in the 200-yard intermediate with a time of 2:34.97. Mollelo was 22nd in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:19.26.
