    Unfortunately, time and weather — as well as vandalism — had taken their toll on the structure. The project included the replacement of support columns as well as decking. We look forward to seeing the finished product.
Time to end budget mayhem
    Every year, it seems, the state is in some sort of economic distress. There's never enough money. Shortfalls have become the status quo. It's a depressing scenario for businesses and citizens.

    The Valley Center school board on Jan. 9 approved a calendar that separates conferences for secondary schools from ones for elementaries. Otherwise, start and end dates as well as spring and winter breaks are largely the same as 2016-17.

Teacher finds success with Premier Driving School Taylor Messick
    Perry Warden is in his first year as a behavior management teacher at Valley Center High School where he works with developmentally disabled students. He is also the co-owner of Newton's Premier Driving School — which will be opening two new locations this week.
