Brown scores 50 in win at Newton Ray Strunk
    In the Hornets' game against the Newton Railers, junior Tyler Brown broke the Valley Center High School record for most points in a single game with 50. The performance bested a record of 43 points that he set in a Dec. 12, 2015, win over Trinity Catholic of Hutchinson. The record had been previously held for nearly 38 years by John Anderson, who scored 41 points in a 1978 game, before the three-point line.

Hornets win tournament, dual Jeremiah Strunk
    The Valley Center High School wrestling team had a successful week. After winning a home dual against Goddard Eisenhower Dec. 8, the Hornets defended their title at the two-day Colby duals tournament Dec. 9 and 10.
Middle school boys fall in tough competition The News Staff
    The Hornets will play at Newton Dec. 15 to finish the 2016 portion of its schedule. The teams will resume Jan. 5 at Goddard.
