9-2 Hornets break or tie several school football records Chris Strunk
    The Valley Center High School football team, which finished with a 9-2 record (best since 1998) and a regional championship (first since 1996), set or tied several modern-day school records during the 2016 campaign.
Bingo night to raise money for band The News staff
    Valley Center Band Aide will have a bingo fundraiser Dec. 1, raising money for the Valley Center High School band program. The event will be at Faith Church, 325 N. Emporia.
Burnett to join reigning national champs Chris Strunk
    Kaylee Burnett, pitcher, first baseman and slugger for the Valley Center High School softball team, signed a letter of intent Nov. 1 to play for Butler Community College next year.

    On Nov. 9, Valley Center High School outfielder Wylie Glover officially signed to play softball at Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va., a member of Conference USA.

    On Nov. 18, Valley Center High School second basemen LaTaylah Perez signed a letter of intent with Cowley Community College in Arkansas City to play softball.
