Man arrested after high-speed car chase The News Staff Park City police attempted to stop a vehicle on I-135 near the 61st Street exit. The vehicle did not stop. Police chased the vehicle north into Harvey County and then south on Broadway into Sedgwick County. Speeds reached over 100 mph, police said. Valley Center police used spike strips, and the vehicle finally stopped on Broadway near 117th North.

Park City hikes pay for police officers Taylor Messick The police department is currently understaffed by about 30 percent. Police Chief Phil Bostian said there have been very few periods during his tenure that the department has been adequately staffed. The department has found it increasingly difficult to recruit new officers and retain existing officers in recent years — and city officials now believe they have found some likely reasons.

Cross country girls win at Wellington Taylor Messick After losing by just one point to a pesky Buhler squad at their home meet last week, the Valley Center High School cross country team got revenge. At the Sept. 10 meet in Wellington, the girls took care of business by beating the Crusaders by six points.

Hornet golfers place 11th at Sand Creek Taylor Messick On Sept. 13, the Valley Center High School golf team visited Sand Creek Station in Newton. The Hornets were supposed to have had another round the day before at Buhler, but head coach Mike McCormick said they couldn't make it due to a scheduling conflict.

Hornet middle school wins seven of 12 matches The News staff It was a busy week for the Valley Center Middle School volleyball teams. Each team played three matches — a triangular Sept. 12 at Andover with Maize and a dual Sept. 8 against Salina Lakewood.

Hornet tennis competes in tough tournaments Randy Fisher In No. 1 singles, Elle Kabler lost to Summer Scharenberg (Collegiate) 8-7 (7-5), lost to Sydney LeFevre (Goddard) 8-3, lost to Brittany Blackim (Salina Central) 8-0, and beat Sally Dinkel (Garden City) 8-3.
