We hope lawmakers will rally for schools Cory Gibson
    “Kansas schools may shut their doors on July 1" has been a headline at the local, state and national levels. We are certainly living during unprecedented times in Kansas history. Boiling down the debate, I could simply say our state is flat broke and our Kansas Supreme Court has ruled school funding unconstitutional yet again. Lawmakers have until June 30 to find a solution.

Balloons for Bellalynn to raise awareness The News Staff
    The Valley Center family of a young girl with a rare affliction will host the third annual Balloons for Bellalynn at 6:30 p.m. June 23 at Lions Park. The event is designed to raise awareness about Dravet Syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy that has no cure.

Park City council takes on speed limit, road conditions  David Dinell
    At its June 14 meeting, the Park City council approved raising the speed limit on the east side of the bridge to 40 mph from 35 mph until North Prospect Road and the beginning of the business area.

    The school board on June 13 approved a proposal to spend $32,973 on the scoreboard, which will be installed this summer.

VCHS Alumni Banquet draws 215 Ron Black
    Valley Center High School alumni have a special day marked every year. On the first Saturday of June, they come from all over the United States to the Alumni Association's annual reunion banquet. This year's banquet on June 4 was a great success, with 215 attendees enjoying the shared friendships, stories of “Oh, remember when…", reliving adventures, and just having a good time, besides getting some good things to eat!

Driver cited for hit-and-run Chris Strunk
    Leeker was literally walking his beat around the Valley View Apartments at Colby and Main June 10 when he heard a car horn sounding. Leeker discovered a vehicle with front-end damage near the apartments.
