    John Hayden “Jack" Barnes, 87, died Feb. 12, 2016. He was retired from Harvey County 4-H.

    Dr. John S. Dienst, 83, of Benton, died Jan. 27, 2015. He was an optometrist.

    Joseph C. Fletcher, 71, of Springfield, Mo., died Jan. 31, 2016. He was retired from One OK since May 2005.

    A group of VCHS graduates recently started an effort to fund the school's class picture panel display. The group is trying to raise $10,000 and is reaching out to all graduates to help the cause.

    A chimney fire at a home in Park City was put out after causing limited damage.
Park City passes on next Home Show  David Dinell
    Park City has decided to opt out of the 2017 Wichita Home Show. The decision was approved after a brief discussion at the Feb. 9 city council meeting about the return of investment on it to the city.
Police enforce seat belt laws The News staff
    The Park City Police Department will join other agencies in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma Feb. 29 through March 13 in an effort to enforce seat belt laws and deter distracted driving.

    Valley Center police and fire crews responded to a grass fire in the 400 block of Meeds about 1 p.m. Feb. 16. The fire scorched an open lot and heat damaged siding at a nearby residence and garage.
