Valley has a lot to celebrate at Fall Fest The core of our city, where much of the festival will take place, looks so much better than it did this time last year. The stormwater drainage project and road reconstruction have finally moved Valley Center into the 21st century. We actually have pedestrian lights at the city's busiest intersection.

Shorthanded Hornets shoot best rounds of the season David Dinell Despite missing a few players due to illness, the Valley Center High School golf team notched at third-place finish out of a seven-team field Sept. 21 at the Augusta Invitational held at Augusta Country Club. The Hornets scored a 215 for the nine-hole contest, a full 15 shots better than last week. They were led by Katie Mitchell, who shot a career low 47 and a third-place finish, and Hannah Arneson, who also scored a career low, a 49, and who came in at fourth place.

VCMS tennis squad wins dual The News staff In its makeup meet against Goddard Eisenhower, the Valley Center Middle School tennis team won 16 matches to take the dual, 16-8.

Valley Center tennis completes busy week Randy Fisher Both the varsity and junior varsity Valley Center High School tennis squads have been busy lately. The varsity has recently played at Hesston, at Valley Center, at Buhler and at Goddard. The JV has recently played at Maize, Goddard and Valley Center. The Hornet JV played Sept. 22 at Derby, but results were not available at news time

Athlete on the mend after rough play on field Chris Strunk and Taylor Messick Senior forward Nathan Eckert was hospitalized for two days after the Sept. 17 incident. He is home and on the mend, said Eckert's father, Russ Eckert, but is unable to attend school or return to soccer.
