Proposed budget cut results in close Bel Aire council vote David Dinell Bel Aire residents won't be seeing an increase in property taxes for 2016. In addition, the city's budget for next year will be reduced.

Two killed in crash near Bel Aire David Dinell The truck driver, Robert Driskill, 34, of Eureka, attempted to avoid hitting the Sable, but failed and the truck hit the passenger side of the car, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol, which investigated the accident. Both vehicles went in a ditch southeast of the intersection. Driskill was not seriously injured in the accident and declined treatment. All three people were wearing seatbelts.

Countdown to Aug. 3 street opening continues Chris Strunk On Aug. 3, Meridian in the heart of Valley Center will re-open all lanes to traffic. The street has been closed completely or in parts since the $6.7 million reconstruction of Meridian, Ramsey and Ford began on March 16.

Family warns of ‘arrest’ scam The News staff A Valley Center area family received a bogus arrest notice in the mail recently, and they wanted to be sure residents don't fall for the scam.

New golf course to be named Valley Point Chris Strunk The Valley Center Recreation Commission approved the name of its nine-hole course, which is under construction, during a special meeting July 21. The name draws on the city's identity as well as a couple of nearby locations — the High Point residential neighborhood and Pierpoint Tree Farm.
