Thanks for roads, plans for the future
In Valley Center, the city is finally getting serious about a long-term solution to the stormwater drainage problem. Work should begin in 2014 on a project to reconstruct South Meridian from Main Street to Ford and funnel water underground to a holding pond south of Ford. When complete, the project will eliminate forever so-called Baxter Springs, the low-lying drainage area in the 400 block of South Meridian that floods each time the city receives a significant amount of rainfall.

Park City approves publication of code violations Matt Heilman
Park City leaders say the objective isn't to embarrass anyone. But for the sake of holding habitual code violators accountable and making their neighbors aware that the city is working to resolve issues with code enforcement, the city council voted to approve the publication of code enforcement violations on the city's website, www.parkcityks.com. The violations would also be published in The Ark Valley News, similar to how Valley Center's code enforcement records are published.

Benefit in Valley Center assists local organizations Matt Heilman
A Christmas concert and silent auction drew a near packed house to LeVenue in downtown Valley Center. On Dec. 1, the Prairie Rose Rangers performed Western-themed holiday tunes, headlining a benefit for three local non-profit organizations that saw a combined effort pay off with almost every seat in the former movie theater space at Le Venue filled.
