Trash truck fire at 81 Speedway The News staff
    A trash load on fire was dumped in the 81 Speedway parking lot shortly before 2:30 p.m. Sept. 30. The driver of a Waste Connections truck dumped the load of trash into the concrete parking lot of the racetrack at 77th and Broadway so it wouldn't damage his truck.

    The drop in temperatures accompanied a drop in times for Valley Center runners. On Oct. 5, both the boys' and the girls' Valley Center High School cross country teams had almost every runner turn in either a season best or personal record performance at the Newton Invitational.
