    Kechi United Methodist Church's new senior pastor gave his first sermon in the small Wichita suburb in early July. More than a month into his latest assignment, Pastor Mitch Reece is striving to reach out to residents northeast of Wichita and help his new church grow.

    While responding to a systems alarm at the Days Inn in Park City, Sedgwick County fire crews encountered “an odor and other components of a meth lab" in one of the rooms, Park City police said.
Park City Council approves beautification plan Matt Heilman
    For four years, a group of community volunteers has worked to develop a plan to give Park City a facelift. The Park City Beautification Committee identified several projects throughout the city to spruce up its image and provide city identification and wayfinding signage.
Storage units burglarized in Park City Matt Heilman
    Power tools and a car amplifier were stolen and property was damaged in a burglary to seven storage units at Park City's AAA Storage, 4801 N. Broadway. The burglary was reported shortly before 8 a.m. Aug. 11.

Student gets a jump-start on career Chris Strunk
    Duarte, who is a senior at Valley Center High School this fall, spent this summer becoming a soldier at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. Duarte joined the U.S. Army National Guard last December, taking advantage of the Army's split option, a program that allows recruits to complete their basic training before their senior year of high school.
