Bergquist will not seek re-election as Park City mayor  Matt Heilman
    Park City will have a new mayor in April. During closing comments of the Park City Council's Jan. 8 meeting, Mayor Emil Bergquist gave a small speech reviewing what the city has accomplished in his years as a council member and his eight years as mayor. Bergquist said he made his final decision on whether or not to seek re-election last month. He said there are 17 reasons he's decided to step down from city service. He then held up a blown up picture of his 17 grandchildren. Bergquist said No. 18 is on the way. 
Hard Charge obstacle race set for April at Pavilions The News staff
    The Hard Charge obstacle mission is making its way to the Kansas Pavilions April 20. The competitive event consists of a four-to-six-mile race complete with 20 obstacles that involve wall and rope climbing, tire stepping, running and crawling in mud.

    The Valley Center High School wrestling team is still in a solid position to accomplish what it set out to do at the start of the season. For Hornet coach Brian Shelton, the goal is always for his team to be better in February than it is in December and January.

Middle school girls split games with Augusta The News staff
    The Valley Center Middle School girls' basketball returned from its holiday break by splitting Jan. 7 home games against August. With the win, the eighth-graders moved to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in Pioneer League II play. With the loss, the seventh-graders dropped to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the league. The Hornets will next be in action Jan. 10 at home against Haysville, followed by a “B" team tournament Jan. 12 at Goddard Eisenhower and a Jan. 14 game at Derby.
