Hannah Scott, owner of Wildflower Coffee, serves a lemonade at 224 E. Ford.

Coffee shop on wheels finds a home

Wildflower Coffee has found a place to park.

The drink trailer, which had been popping up in various parking lots around Valley Center the past two years, is parked inside a mechanic's garage-turned coffee shop at 225 E. Ford (77th). The shop is open 7 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Owner Hannah Scott said she still has the ability to take the Wildflower Coffee trailer on the road for special events, but she said she wanted a home because the unpredictable Kansas weather makes it difficult to plan ahead with certainty.

The company is renting the 1,200-square-foot building from the Appelhans, who own the nearby TNT Auto.

The shop was cleaned up and renovated. Scott said nearly all of the furniture and décor were bought at thrift stores or were gifts from friends. The shop was decorated to match the 1962 12-foot trailer.

"I wanted it to feel comfortable in here," Scott said, "almost like a living room back in the day."

Scott bought the trailer and the 1983 flare-side Ford truck that pulls it in 2019, when she got the idea to start a coffee business on her way home from a family vacation at Niagara Falls. She and her family renovated the inside of the trailer, and Scott made a menu of cold and hot drinks. The most popular, she said, became the Tennessee Latte, which was named as an homage to her aunt, who lives in Tennessee and makes honey bun cake. The latte contains local honey, cinnamon and French vanilla. The summer favorite, she said, is the blueberry lemonade.

Scott said she wants the new space to be about more than coffee and lemonade.

"I hope and I want this place to honor and glorify the Lord," she said.
