FOOTBALL PICKS: Anderson wins overall prize

Gary Anderson, a veteran Ark Valley News football picks player, has won the contest.

Anderson staved off challengers with a good performance in the final week of the contest. He had 17 out of 20 correct picks, while second-place finisher Sharon Scantlin had 16. Anderson won the contest by a point. He finished with 143, and Scantlin had 142.

Anderson wins two tickets to the Kansas City Chiefs Dec. 29 home game against the Los Angeles Chargers, a night's stay at a hotel and $100 in cash.

Anderson averaged just over 14 correct picks each week. His best was 17 in the final week, while his lowest was 10 in Week 9. Anderson won first place in Week 4 with 16 correct picks and won third place in Week 6 with 16.

In Week 10, Barbara Carroll had 17 of 20 correct picks and broke a seven-way tie for first place.

Carroll's tiebreaker guess of 56 was closest to the combined final score of the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions game (a 35-27 Cowboys win). The next-closes tiebreaker guess came from Stacy Terwilliger, who won second place with a guess of 51. Brian Carroll won third place with a tiebreaker guess of 49.

The others with 17 correct picks (and their tiebreaker guesses) were Gordon Reddoch (47), Gary Anderson (45), Erik Riffel (42) and Caleb Clark (40).

Barbara Carroll wins $25 in football bucks, Terwilliger $15 and Brian Carroll $10. This week's prizes can be picked up at The Ark Valley News, 210 W. Main.

Ten people had 16 correct picks. They were Sharon Scantlin, Bob Scantlin, Cameron McDaniel, Cason Berschauer, Kyrie Edwards, Isaac Neal, Ryan Nutter, Eric Thompson, Kyle Lang and Spike Anderson.

Finishing behind Gary Anderson and Sharon Scantlin in the overall race were Bob Scantlin and Danell Wilbur with 139 each. Cameron McDaniel and Craig Kutz had 138 each. Harold Bohlmann had 137. Barbara Carroll, Brian Carroll, Caleb Clark, Cason Berschauer, Chad Clark and Bobby Massey had 136.
