Hoedown a fundraiser for local horse rescue

A local horse rescue is offering up a bit of the country life in hopes of reining in some donations this weekend near Valley Center.

Hope in the Valley Equine Rescue and Sanctuary will host a "Hoedown for Hope" from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Hope in the Valley farm, 9025 N. Broadway.

The public is invited. Cost is $15 per carload. All proceeds will benefit the horse rescue.

"If you have admired horses from a distance, the Hoedown is your chance to get up close and personal," said Kelly Benton, fundraising chair for Hope in the Valley.

Benton said the event is a "celebration of horses."

It will include barnyard games, pony rides, a campfire, food trucks, merchandise vendors and barrel-racing competitions.

The Hope in the Valley Equine Rescue began in 2005 and has taken care of more than 340 neglected horses, providing food, shelter and medical care.

"Hope is built on the dedication of volunteers and the kindness of donors," Benton said.
