The Hornets keep on winning.

The Valley Center High School soccer team improved to 9-0 with a pair of shutout victories during the past week.

On April 11, the Hornets visited an improving Buhler squad and left with a 2-0 victory.

Valley Center started the game by taking full control of the momentum. The Hornets dominated possession throughout the first half. The Hornets regularly broke down the Crusaders on the wings but struggled to find the last pass inside to put the ball in the net.

The Hornets got their first goal of the game when Sophie Girtz laid the ball off to Haley Sparks outside the 18-yard box and she fired it in for the score. The Hornets took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Valley Center mostly dominated possession again. However, Buhler did begin to find some through balls and break through the Hornets' defensive line to challenge them.

Lexi Eddy made a difference late in the game on her side of the field. She began breaking through the defensive line by ramping up the pace of the game. She took the ball inside aggressively and found Girtz cutting to the net to make it 2-0. Valley Center held the Crusaders in check defensively for the rest of the game.

Girtz was coach Steen Danielsen's MVP after leading the girls to a win with an assist and a goal.

On April 16, the Hornets hosted Andover Central for an important Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League II matchup. The girls came out firing on all cylinders and took care of the Jaguars easily in a 6-0 win.

The Hornets' first goal came from Syd Wilson off an assist by Lexi Eddy. Eddy then took matters into her own hands to put the Hornets up 2-0. Wilson assisted freshman Ruby Aguilar for the third goal. Eddy then got another assist on a goal from Sparks to make it 4-0. The fifth goal came off a nicely executed corner for Girtz, who scored. The final goal of the night was scored by Ashlynn Kurtz off an assist from Olivia Niedens. Danielsen gave Eddy the game MVP.

Goalie Kyrah Klumpp recorded the two shutouts.

The JV squad beat Buhler 1-0. The girls beat Andover Central 3-1. The Hornets got two goals from Ashlynn Kurtz and one from Maddie Hamm against the Jaguars.

Valley Center plays at Eisenhower April 18 and at Ark City April 23.
