Weather causes wrecks, closing
By The News staff
Last Updated: February 14, 2019

Snow, ice and freezing temperatures forced the closure of the Valley Center school district for two days last week and caused several wrecks in and around the city.

The district closed Feb. 6 and 7 because of the conditions. Officials said the roads and sidewalks posed a danger for parents and students.

Meanwhile, wrecks — mostly one-vehicle rollovers — were reported in the 900 block of South Meridian and 69th and Meridian in Valley Center and in the 10600 block of North Oliver, the 3000 block of East 61st, the 10400 block of North Broadway and two in the 12000 block of North 111th East.

No one was seriously hurt.

An ambulance was called to the 800 block of Redbud Court in Valley Center Feb. 6 after receiving a report that a 76-year-old woman fell on ice and was unable to get up for two hours before help was called. She was treated by EMS.
