The View from Sunflower Gardens By Marilyn Bentley Last Updated: February 14, 2019 We like Friday night sing-alongs Flying over Kansas in a Stearman biplane sky tours is an adventure. Folks in Kansas like our getaways along many Kansas byways. It's February — Valentine's Day to be celebrated and Presidents Day at Sunflower. We like our Monday and Thursday coffee chats, Tuesday Bible study, game nights, music sing-alongs, potluck dinners, our library, our puzzle rooms and walks down our halls. Remember to keep in prayer all our troops and their families, our Congress and president. Thanks to all our volunteers on potluck dinners. Folks like the Atchison riverwalk and old buildings. It's the hometown of Amelia Earhart. Verse of the week: "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." (Psalms 46:6) On our Friday hymn sing-alongs, we like hymns "Bringing in the Sheaves," "In the Garden," "The Old Rugged Cross," "Brighten the Corner Where You Are" and "Climbing Jacob's Ladder." Thank you to Kay Tweet for playing piano for us every Friday night (unless weather is too bad). In Kansas we have outdoorsy folks and artsy folks. Atchison Lake provides good fishing. Council Grove has some unique old buildings. We have acres of farmland, green rolling hills, sunflowers, wheat, corn, cows, horses and tractors. Kansas is a great agricultural state. Historical preservation of old buildings is ongoing in many towns of Kansas on the Great Plains. At Sunflower we welcome all new residents to live in Valley Center, 10 miles north of Wichita. We still have oil wells nearby. The Wichita, Kan., claim to fame is all our aircraft business. We like the new Eisenhower Airport buildings, too. There are popular malls, churches and restaurants and cafes and parks in Wichita. We like the recreation beside the Arkansas River. "Be kind, anyway." — Mother Teresa Thanks to all our wonderful Kansas photographers in our Kansas newspapers and magazines. |
