Valley Center senior receives coveted teaching scholarship
By The News staff
Last Updated: January 17, 2019

Lizzie Pierce, a senior at Valley Center High School, was one of five high school seniors who were awarded a Doris and Ralph Klose Endowed Scholarship through Wichita State University's College of Applied Studies.

Pierce plans to major in secondary education math.

The Klose Scholarship is an annual competition for high school seniors who declare a major in math or science education at WSU. Winners receive up to $20,000 in merit and Klose Scholarships upon entering the teacher-education program their junior year.

The scholarship is the result of a gift of $7.5 million to fund undergrad scholarships in math and science education from the estate of WSU alumni Doris and Ralph Klose.
