Schulz multi-state coach of the year By The News staff Last Updated: January 17, 2019 Dean Schulz has received another accolade. Eight months after he led the Valley Center High School boys tennis team to a Class 5A state title, Schulz was named Midwest Coach of the Year for Boys Tennis, which includes Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota. The National Federation of State High School Coaches Associations announced the award this week. He was nominated by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. Schulz has been head coach of the Hornet boys tennis program for 36 years. The Hornets in 2018 won the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League II and Class 5A regional titles before earning the state championship. It was Valley Center's first-ever boys state team title in any sport and the first for the school since 1978. Schulz was named Wichita Eagle's All-Metro tennis coach of the year. He was also named the Kansas Tennis Coaches Association Coach of the Year. |
