Park City police to upgrade ticketing By Taylor Messick Last Updated: January 03, 2019 The Park City police department has come a long way the last few years and some equipment purchases will help move the needle a little more in 2019. On Dec. 11, the city council unanimously approved the purchase of new technology that will improve legal processes. The city agreed to purchase an electronic traffic citation system and an electronic fingerprinting system. The police budget has the money for both items due to its current understaffing. The electronic traffic citation system is being purchased from Saltus Technologies for $32,400. This will streamline traffic stops for police and drivers because driver's licenses can be easily scanned. Information can be quickly input into the system to generate the proper citation. Digital tickets also allow for more clarity by eliminating handwritten information. All information input electronically is stored and is immediately available to officers, customers and the court, rather than being physically passed between the necessary entities. The electronic fingerprinting system is being purchased from IDEMIA for $19,650. The city currently outsources fingerprinting for the court system to a security firm and the results have been inconsistent. Fingerprints have to be converted electronically for the state database. The department plans to have police officers handle fingerprinting going forward. |
