Helen Ann (Poston) Carey, 86, of Valley Center, died Oct. 25, 2018.

The daughter of Morris Brooks and Mabel Webster Poston, she grew up in Rose Hill. She participated in 4-H activities, played basketball and was a cheerleader at Rose Hill High School, where she graduated as valedictorian. At Kansas State University, she was an active member of Clovia and earned a degree in home economics. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church and served in numerous leadership and teaching positions in her home church and with United Methodist Women. She received a human rights award in 2012.  

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Glen Edward David. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, John Paul Carey, brother Carl (Jessie) Poston, son Richard (Diane) David, daughters Belinda (Kerry) Hunt and Melissa (Mike) Slife, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many other family and friends.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Nov. 17 at the First United Methodist Church, Valley Center. Memorial donations to the Sanctuary Remodeling Fund or United Methodist Women at First United Methodist Church of Valley Center, 560 N. Park Avenue, Valley Center KS 67147. Baker Funeral Home of Valley Center has charge.
