Local county post up for grabs By The News staff Last Updated: October 29, 2018 While statewide races will be decided in the November General Election, several local seats are up for grabs as well. Democrat Lacey Cruse is challenging two-term incumbent Repubican Richard Ranzau for the District 4 seat of the Sedgwick County Commission. Both won their primary races. Ranzau barely got by challenger Hugh Nicks, winning by 75 votes (3,513 to 3,438). Cruse won the Democratic primary election over Michael Kinard with 57 percent of the vote (3,153 to 2,387). The winner will serve a four-year term. In the other county races, Republican Pete Meitzner will face Democrat Renee Duxler in District 1 and Republican Jim Howell will face Jim Skelton, an Independent, in District 5. In Kansas House races, 90th District Rep. Steve Huebert does not have a challenger. Emil Bergquist, who represents the 91st, will face Libertarian David Loomis. In the 89th District, Democrat KC Ohaebosim does not have an opponent. Area voters also will decide who will represent District 7 of the State Board of Education. Republican Ben Jones of Sterling faces Democrat James Hannon of Emporia. Early voting at the Sedgwick County Election Office in downtown Wichita will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 22 through 26 and Oct. 29 through Nov. 2; from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 3; and from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 5. Additional early voting will take place at satellite locations across Sedgwick County from noon to 7 p.m. Oct. 30; noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 31; noon to 7 p.m. Nov. 1 and 2; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 3. Those satellite locations include Bel Aire City Hall and the Valley Center Community Center & Library at 314 E. Clay. General Election will be Nov. 6. The Valley Center poll site will be at the community center. |
