Sixth grade

The Valley Center Junior Hornet sixth-grade football team defeated Ark City 25-6 on the road Oct. 6.

Valley Center started quickly with a 40-yard touchdown run by Ethan Outley and a 21-yard pass from Connor Meyer to Caleb Needham in the first quarter. Corben Burgess scored a two-point conversion.

Before halftime, Meyer threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Jaxson Bishop.

In the third quarter, Needham tacked on a score with a 58-yard touchdown run.

Needham led the offense with 67 yards on six carries.

Bryson Saner had five tackles and an interception, while Colby Newton recorded four tackles.

"Our offensive line had its best game of the season," coach Steve Meyer said. "Jason Swindle, Waylon Minihan, Waylon Johnson, Cody Sherbon, Noah Chobad, Tye Morand and Adam Donley pass protected and opened up some nice holes."

Valley Center will host Augusta Oct. 13.

Fourth grade

The Valley Center Junior Hornet fourth-grade football team got 12 points from its defense to defeat Ark City 24-13 on the road Oct. 5.

The Junior Hornets trailed 7-6 at halftime, but took a commanding 24-7 lead in the third quarter and held on for the victory.

Cayman Heck recovered an Ark City fumble in the second quarter and ran 20 yards for a touchdown.

Preston Looney scored a 56-yard touchdown run in the third and then threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Evan Chavez.

Chavez added a score in the third on an interception return for a touchdown.

Heck had two fumble recoveries and four tackles. Corbin Holdaway had five tackles, including three for a loss. Chavez recorded six tackles.

Looney ran 10 times for 84 yards. Holdaway gained 32 yards on 10 carries.

The Junior Hornets will host Augusta Oct. 13.

Third grade

The Valley Center Junior Hornet third-grade football team defeated Ark City 26-14 on the road Oct. 5.

Valley Center's Layne Loganbill scored on a 21-yard run in the first quarter. Jaxon Welu ran in the extra point.

Welu broke a 7-7 first-quarter tie with a 27-yard touchdown run in the second. Tate Loux scored the extra point.

Loganbill kept it going for the Junior Hornets, scoring on a 26-yard run for a 20-7 halftime lead.

After a scoreless third quarter, the teams traded touchdowns in the fourth. Welu scored on an eight-yard run to secure Valley Center's victory.

Loganbill finished with 17 yards rushing on 10 carries. Welu had 132 yards on 14 carries. Loux gained 20 yards on five tries.

Defensively, Loganbill had six tackles; Welu four; Jaxton Tautfest, Ryder Slay, Dylan Dennis and John Pena three each; and Chance Spangler, Cannon Weart, Loux, Brody Hunter and Caden Spangler one each.

"The boys played a great game on both sides of the ball," said coach Dan Welu. "We had six kids with three or more tackles, and the offensive line was making holes all day. They are getting better every week, and that's what it's all about."

The Junior Hornets will host Wellington Oct. 13.
