The average price for a gallon of gas in the Wichita area fell 5.8 cents during the past week, averaging $2.58 on Sept. 16. The national average rose 0.5 cents to $2.84, according to GasBuddy.com. The change will take place with the November election. The former poll site was Valley Center Christian Church at Seneca and 85th. … On Sept. 11, a Valley Center police officer responded to 1240 E. Ford for a suspicious person call. A 9-year-old boy was ringing doorbells after 11 p.m. and walking around with a toy gun. The officer spoke with the apartment manager and tried to contact the child's parents, but they were not home. The manager said she left them a message regarding other matters and would discuss this with them as well. ... The 100 and 200 blocks of West Main and parts of Park Street in downtown Valley Center will be closed by 5 p.m. Sept. 20 to clear the way for Fall Festival preparations. Ottaway Amusement rides normally start rolling in Thursday for the Friday and Saturday festival. The streets will remain closed until 6 a.m. Sept. 23.
