Man accused of threatening cops
By The News staff
Last Updated: September 20, 2018

Valley Center police arrested a Wichita man at Main and Meridian early Sept. 12 after he allegedly threatened to kill officers.

Smith was walking near the downtown intersection around 3 a.m. when an officer stopped him.

Chief Lloyd Newman said the officer was going to give the man a ride. The officer patted him down before letting him get into the vehicle, and the officer allegedly found a broken glass drug pipe in his pocket.

While the officer was placing the man into custody, the man allegedly threatened to kill him and a Sedgwick County sheriff's deputy.

Michael Lee Smith, 22, was booked into jail on charges of interference with a law enforcement officer and two counts of criminal threat.

He did not have a weapon, Newman said.
