Junior Hornet football
Last Updated: September 13, 2018

Sixth grade

The sixth-grade Valley Center Junior Hornet football team started its season with a 15-0 win over Clearwater Sept. 8 at home.

After a scoreless first half, Valley Center got on the board when Ethan Outley sacked the Clearwater quarterback in the end zone for a safety.

Colby Newton scored a touchdown on a two-yard run, to give Valley Center an 8-0 third-quarter advantage.

Caleb Needham added a two-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, and Connor Meyer ran in the conversion for the final score.

Steel Shomaker had 16 carries for 110 yards.

Defensively, Outley had four tackles for a loss, a blocked punt and the safety. Shomaker had six tackles, and Newton and Easton Dye three each.

"Our slow start was due to three turnovers in the first half," coach Stephen Meyer said. "Offense has a few things to clean up. Defensively, we gave up less than 40 yards. Flow to the ball all day. Really liked how physical we were."

The Junior Hornets will play at Hutchinson Sept. 15.

Fourth grade

The fourth-grade Junior Hornets came out strong and claimed a 33-0 victory over Clearwater Sept. 8 at home.

Valley Center led 27-0 at halftime.

Preston Looney scored on a punt return and scrambled for a touchdown in the second quarter.

Silas Preheim scored two running touchdowns in the second quarter.

Evan Chavez added a long touchdown run in the fourth.

Valley Center will play at Andover Sept. 15.
