Animal league donates to dog park

The Valley Center Animal League put its money where its bark was Sept. 4. The league gave the City of Valley Center $3,340 to help cover the cost of the fencing around the new dog park playground areas in Lions Park.

The city spent $23,340 on the dog park, which opened this summer. The league promised to cover expenses over $20,000.

"The animal league's partnership with the city is a good testament of the whole community coming together," said Frank Miller, the city's animal control officer.

The dog park was a longtime dream of the animal league, which also sprung for the playground equipment in the park.

Miller called the dog park a "well-made" investment in the community.

"It is used on a daily basis," he said. "… I worried previously that I'd be getting complaints to come up and settle this and that. I have not received a single complaint."

Miller said the animal league "stepped up" to help construct a nice park.
