K-254 association to address safety
By The News staff
Last Updated: September 06, 2018

Government, nonprofit and business leaders along K-254 announced last week the creation of the K-254 Corridor Development Association.

The group is looking for ways to work with the Kansas Department of Transportation to improve safety on the highway and ways to promote business growth.

The group said K-254 is one of the deadliest roads in Kansas. At the same time, communities along K-254, including Bel Aire and Kechi, are seeing more growth that leads to economic development opportunities.

Local leaders gathered in June to discuss the idea of an association and gauge interest. Over 35 people attended from various entities including government, colleges, nonprofits and schools. All agreed there is much work that needs done to make K-254 safer while promoting economic development.

The association was formally created Aug. 15 with bylaws being adopted, board of director positions filled and officers elected. Paperwork has been submitted to the Secretary of State for formal recognition.

Stakeholders from any sector are welcome to join.
