Students return to school
By The News staff
Last Updated: August 23, 2018

Classes in the Valley Center school district will start next week.

Students entering the first through seventh and ninth grades and those who are new to the district will start on Aug. 23.

The first day of school for eighth and 10th through 12th will be Aug. 24. Kindergarten starts Aug. 28.

The school year was pushed into August later than usual this year to accommodate the summer reconstruction projects.

Besides new classroom spaces and upgrades, the school year will start with a change in grade configurations.

Abilene, West and Wheatland elementaries will be home to students through the third grade, while fourth and fifth will be at the intermediate school and sixth through eighth at the middle school.

Previously, the elementaries had fourth grade and the intermediate was fifth and sixth.

The changes have allowed the district to house a growing student population.
