Flair Antiques & Home Décor owner Starla Brown Morgan says she wants to help make Valley Center a destination.

Woman transforms house into unique antique shop

A Valley Center woman has opened a new antique and home-furnishing shop in her front yard.

Starla Brown Morgan opened Flair Antiques & Home Décor in a house at 596 W. Main on June 29. She lives in a home near the shop.

“I just wanted this to be a peaceful retreat," Morgan said. “The only way to do that is for me to do something here."

The shop sells items on consignment from estates or from people who are downsizing and want to sell their antiques or “cool stuff," Morgan said.

The shop's slogan is “Where shabby and chic meet primitive and retro." It includes a little bit of everything, Morgan said.

“This is a spot where people can assign partial estates, or if downsizing can bring antiques or cool stuff here," she said. “I want it to be an asset for Valley Center and want it to be something that draws people to Valley Center, a destination."

Though the merchandise changes, it includes furniture, décor, dishes and artwork.

It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.

The shop will host the LumpiaPalooza food truck on July 21 and 28, and Morgan is planning an open-air flea market in September.

Morgan, who was born and raised in Wichita, had a shop in Old Town for three years, selling vintage garden and architectural artifacts.

She previously was involved in Christmas in Riverside, where six homes would decorate for the holidays and open to the public for art and antique sales.

Morgan moved to Valley Center and it took about a month for her to get her shop ready to open.

Flair can be reached at 249-7564.
