Parlor owner appeals conviction By Chris Strunk Last Updated: April 26, 2018 A Valley Center massage parlor owner convicted of prostitution in 2016 is awaiting trial on an appeal in Sedgwick County District Court. Sharon Latimer, who was convicted of prostitution and running a massage business without a license in back-to-back Valley Center Municipal Court cases, appealed the convictions to district court. She was to have a jury trial earlier this year. However, that trial was moved to Aug. 21 at Latimer's request. In June 2017, a municipal court judge sentenced Latimer to six months in jail and fined her $200 for the convictions. In a Sept. 21, 2016, case, prosecutors said Latimer agreed to accept money from an undercover officer for manual “stimulation of the genitals" at her business in the 100 block of South Birch. Also in the case, prosecutors said Latimer did not have a valid city permit to operate the massage business. In a case dated Oct. 21, 2016, prosecutors said Latimer agreed to provide manual stimulation for $80 in cash. She also is accused of operating without a license. Each charge was a misdemeanor. Latimer was granted one year of probation from the jail sentence. Latimer's attorney filed an appeal in district court in July 2017 and requested a jury trial. |
