By The News staff
Last Updated: April 26, 2018

A 37-year-old man accused of killing his 22-year-old brother at a home west of Valley Center in 2017 was convicted this week in Sedgwick County District Court.

A jury on April 23 found Michael Lee Phillips guilty of first-degree murder and aggravated battery. Sentencing was set for June 13.

Prosecutors said Phillips shot James L. Rotramel during an argument at a home in the 8300 block of North 94th West, which is west of Tyler and south of 85th North, about three miles west of Valley Center, on Feb. 12.

Rotramel was taken to a Wichita hospital, where he died of his wounds. A second victim was treated for a gunshot wound.
