Friends sign to play football By Emmie Boese Last Updated: April 26, 2018 Two friends may be going to different colleges after high school but they have similar plans. Valley Center High School seniors Caleb Rains and Aaron Coash signed letters of intent April 4 to play football this fall. Rains signed with Mid-America Nazarene and Coash signed with West Texas A&M University. Rains played running back, fullback and linebacker for the Hornets. He will continue to play linebacker in college. Coash was a kicker and a linebacker his senior year. Rains was named All Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League II second-team running back his junior season, and second-team linebacker his senior season. Coash was named All AVCT League II second-team kicker his sophomore season, and first-team kicker during his junior season. Coash also tied the school record with the longest field goal at 47 yards. Rains said that he put a lot of thought into where he wanted to go and he felt like Mid-America Nazarene is where he is called to go. “Just praying and really trusting God," Rains said. “I changed my mind twice before I finally decided where I wanted to go. I called the coach just exploring options and he was just like yeah we'll sign you." Coash said West Texas A&M fit his expectations compared to some of the other schools he visited. “Mostly I'll be able to start going there," said Coash. “I visited all the schools and I was very particular in what I wanted." Valley Center High School's former head football coach Caleb Smith said that Coash and Rains are quality players and their character will get them far at the next level. “They are both very high-character guys, guys you never had to worry about being in trouble," said Smith. “Guys that always led by example and did things right on and off the field, and just knowing their character and knowing that they will be successful at the next level." |
