Rescue hosts gelding clinic
By The News staff
Last Updated: February 01, 2018

Hope in the Valley Equine Rescue and Sanctuary hosted a free gelding clinic last weekend, resulting in the castration of 17 stallions.

Operation Gelding is a collaborative effort among Hope in the Valley Equine Rescue and Sanctuary in Valley Center, local veterinarian Dr. James Speer from Equine Surgery and Medicine, and the Unwanted Horse Coalition. Volunteers organized the event to help owners who might not otherwise be able to afford the procedure. The program ensures the horse cannot be bred and often results in a horse that is much calmer and easily trained, said Ande Armstrong, founder and president of Hope in the Valley Equine Rescue and Sanctuary.
