Vandals overturn outhouse, ruin books By Taylor Messick Last Updated: December 28, 2017 Vandals paid an unpleasant visit to Kechi Park earlier this month. Building inspector Larry Kallenburger said he received the news from an employee Dec. 3. He said he knew immediately that there was more than one person present during the vandalism because a large porta potty had been tipped over. “It was a big, handicapped-accessible one," said Kallenburger. “It would take more than one person. You don't just flip those around and push them over like you can with the small ones. You've got to pick this one up to move it." The suspects also removed three protective globes from the tops of the lamps in the park. Two of those were broken while the other was still intact. All three of them have since been replaced. The suspects then decided to tamper with the park's recently added book nook. More than 60 books that had been shared by Kechi community members were tossed into the pond and destroyed. The city has since retrieved them. “At this point you just have to wait and see if somebody starts bragging about it," said police Chief John Blevins. “We don't like to make assumptions, but you'd assume it's kids or young adults. I figure they'd have to be at least high school aged to have two or three of them tip the porta potty. They were just out with nothing better to do, I guess." Anyone with information on the crime should contact the Kechi Police Department. |
