Associate minister joins Christian church staff
By The News staff
Last Updated: December 28, 2017

Pastor Michael Martinez has been named associate minister at Valley Center Christian Church.

Martinez has worked with teenagers for 15 years, with experiences ranging from teaching at a private Christian school, working with troubled teens at detention facilities, coaching soccer and 10 years of church ministry. He has lived in the Wichita area for most of his life, with the exception of a few years when he lived in Springfield, Mo., to attend Baptist Bible College, where he graduated with a bachelor of science in pastoral and biblical studies. He and his family moved back to Valley Center, where they have lived for a total of 14 years. His wife, Gennifer, has been a speech therapist for 12 years and is currently working with the Wichita school district.

They have three children — Reyna, 19, Marcelo, 15, a freshman at Valley Center High School, and Nehemiah, 10, a fourth-grader at Abilene Elementary. They also have a couple of beagles and a cat that has recently adopted the family.

Martinez enjoys most sports, including soccer, wrestling, basketball and football. He is a fan of most music genres, the theater and being out in the fresh country air. Martinez says his desire is to help the body of Christ grow in its passion to spread the gospel. He wants to help people mature in their faith and relationship with God.

He can be reached at 755-1233.
