Many donations made to building fund

This is the season of giving. I personally enjoy giving to family and friends during the holiday season.

I thought I would share the “giving" that has been provided to the Friends Building Fund over the last two years.

• We have received $4,390 from individuals for memorials of their loved ones.

• Miscellaneous donations received were $1,767.34.

• Book sales provided $3,197.98.

• The donation jar at the circulation counter has received $1,439.81.

• Money received from Best Choice for the return of their labels is $240.

• Funds rebated from purchases at Pizza Hut and Kroger were $379.39.

• Our silent auctions have brought in $728.

• The children's summer reading challenge brought in $305.

• Income from the Wine with Friends was $692.90.

• Money received from purchases through Smile.Amazon was $207.47.

All of those donations total $13,347.89.

Donations of less than $1,000 were $13,096. It's amazing what small amounts of “giving" can do to the total overall donation total. These donations are in addition to the monies donated that are in K-Club and other categories.

The monthly silent auction baskets have been an interesting variety. The Christmas basket top bidder will be notified Dec. 21 to allow time for the winner to collect the basket before Christmas. The December basket items were provided by library staff. We would appreciate donations for upcoming baskets.

• The January basket will have a Valentine's theme.

• February's basket theme will be gardening.

• March's basket theme will be Easter.

• April's basket theme will be Mother's Day.

• May's basket theme will be Father's Day.

• June's basket theme will be an outdoor theme with lawn games, barbecue items, aprons, etc.

If you would like to contribute to a future basket, bring items in at the appropriate month. A mixture of small items will provide a great variety for the bidder.

Several months ago, the library received a technology grant from the South Central Kansas Library System that provided us with several new computers that will be installed Dec. 13.

The grant is also providing a laptop that can be used for meetings, and an IPad that will be utilized during inventory.

Final invoices have been mailed for unpaid pledges to the Friends Building Fund. The balance of the invoices are due Dec. 31.

Email messages will be sent to donors of more than $1,000 in January to get inscriptions for their bricks.

The Friends will continue to welcome donations for the new library. We need to provide all interior furnishings with the exception of the circulation desk.

All donors will be identified with donor tags on items they purchase from the wish list unless they wish to remain anonymous. A copy of the wish list is available at the library for anyone wishing to purchase an item or items.

Story times will go on hiatus after Dec. 14 until Jan. 9 for the holiday season.

The library will be closed Dec. 23 and 25 to observe Christmas. We will also be closed Dec. 30 and Jan. 1 to observe New Year's.

Upcoming events

Dec. 11 — Library board meeting

Dec. 19 — City Council

Dec. 19 — No story times until Jan. 9

Dec. 23 & 25 — Library closed

Dec. 30 & Jan. 1 — Library closed
